Tyrion writes that Jon once asked him if they'd made the right decision killing Dany, and at the time Tyrion had told him to "ask me again in 10 years." With the ten year anniversary of Bran's reign approaching, Tyrion tells Jon to come south and "ask me again," setting up the plot for season 2.Iceland, with its landscapes and features, has long been a popular filming location. It's from Tyrion, with directions for Sansa to give it to Jon the next time she saw him. The final scene is Sansa handing Jon a letter that arrived a few months ago from King's Landing. The season ends with Jon and his people feasting at Winterfell, celebrating a refreshed peace in the north. Jon tosses him the second sword and they once again battle, only this time Jon wins, killing Rayder Jr and by extension averting a catastrophic war between his sister and the people he's come to love so much. Tragically, Rayder Jr is too drunk on pride, power, arrogance, and his desire to be as beloved as his father to take Jon's offer. ![]() He offers Rayder Jr once more - stand down and have peace, or fight. The night before they march, Jon escapes captivity with the help of Ghost, but instead of fleeing he goes to Rayder Jr's tent with two swords. As such, they comply and soon Rayder Jr has a fully united army of free folk that he believes would make his father proud - they light another massive fire to honor his father, then prepare to march through the gap in the wall. Tormund is reluctant to disobey Rayder Jr, knowing that it could mean Jon being executed. Rayder Jr commands Tormund and the rest of Jon's group to return to their homes, gather their belongings, and then join Rayder Jr to formally unite their forces. ![]() On a neutral field with each of their armies watching, Rayder Jr defeats Jon, but takes him prisoner instead of killing him - Rayder Jr knows that many of the free folk idolize and admire the legend of Jon Snow and by keeping him alive he can have a better chance of recruiting more people into his army - he also knows Jon's people will only follow him with their leader as a hostage, regardless of their arrangement before the duel. While Tormund and the others celebrate the idiocy of their soon to be dead enemy, Jon is smart enough to know Rayder Jr is likely confident for a reason. Tormund thinks Rayder Jr will refuse "like that cunt Bolton" but to everybody's surprise the offer is accepted. The only solution he can think of to avoid all out war is challenging Rayder Jr to single combat with command over their respective armies at stake. With Jon refusing to act, Sansa is preparing to gather the forces of the north to deal with Rayder Jr, in essence reigniting the ancient feud between free folk and northerners that Jon so desperately hoped to fix. Their army is growing at an alarming rate but Jon refuses to fight them and shed more wildling blood, and Rayder Jr hasnt been bold enough to provoke him yet, instead doing small scale raids of northern communities he too sees the pointlessness of free folk killing each other. Things are mostly peaceful north of the wall with one exception - a splinter cell of radicals led by a son of Mance Rayder, with their ultimate goal being a full scale invasion of the south to fulfill the destiny of Rayder. Jon and his band of free folk have settled north of the wall and are expanding into their own little unofficial eighth kingdom. ![]() » /r/EarthOfIceAndFire - reminding of GOTĩ years after Game of Thrones.
